Santhana krishnan (Doing PhD in Botony) asked my company for plants collection on thursday. We planned to go to Aanakkatty forests(Boarder of Tamilnadu and Kerala states). The other side of the Aaanakkatty is Mannarghat (palakkad district), which is only a 20 Km from the Aaanakkatti. After putting our signatures on the lab register we moved to Aaanakkatti on his Hero Honda bike. We reached there at 9.30 am on thursday morning, it took nearly 45 minutes to reach there. There was a sign of rain but it did not. He rode the bike into the "penappalli" aadivaasi village and parked the bike infront of an aaadivaasi home.
He started to collect the plants and I assisted him. I got new information from him and got identified a number of plants, shrubs and herbs. We met few aadivaasis and inquired about the medicinal plants. We slowly entered into the thick forest and it was dark inside even at 2pm. I was afraid and stopped him going deep inside of the forest, because we had seen many footsteps of elephants and forest pigs. The aadivaasis also told us about the troubles created by the elephants and the government also provided them electric chains around their houses and cultivating fields.
It was a remarkable experience and unforgattable day because of that we climbed one of the hills also. The feelings at the height is tremendous, one should experience it rather than explaining it.
I have posted our expedition pictures on my personal album.
